Four things you do not get from western numerology
Numbers point at planets
Western numerology treats a number as carrying meaning on its own. Vedic numerology treats it as a pointer to a planet, and the planet is where the meaning lives. That is why the same number can read quite differently in the two systems.
Relationships run one way
The planets have fixed friendships, and they are not always mutual. One can treat another as a friend and get nothing back. That asymmetry explains a lot of one sided effort that otherwise looks like plain bad luck.
Timing is built in
The Dasha system divides life into planetary periods that nest inside each other. Western numerology has personal years, which are useful, but nothing on this scale.
Remedies are part of the tradition
Because it comes from the same background as Indian astrology, Vedic numerology carries a long history of practical responses to a weak planet: stones, yantras, colours and timing.

Questions about Vedic numerology
What is the difference between Vedic numerology and western numerology?
Vedic numerology assigns a ruling planet to each number and reads a chart through the relationships between those planets. Western numerology reads the numbers directly. Vedic is stronger on timing and on how two numbers interact, western is stronger on personality description.
Do I need my birth time for Vedic numerology?
No. Birth time matters in Vedic astrology, where the positions of planets in the sky are calculated. Vedic numerology works from your date of birth and your name, so a date is enough.
Why are 4 and 7 treated differently from the other numbers?
They are ruled by Rahu and Ketu, which are the lunar nodes rather than physical planets. The tradition calls them shadow points, and the numbers they rule carry a quality of sitting slightly outside the normal pattern.
What is a Dasha period?
A stretch of life ruled by one planet. The major period is the Maha Dasha, which runs for years. Inside it sit Antar Dasha sub periods, and inside those sit smaller Pratyantar periods. The app calculates all of them with the Ank Jyotish method, down to the planet ruling each day.
