Lucky Numbers

The numbers that work with your chart, sorted into friend, neutral and non friend by the planets behind them.

Lucky numbers get treated as a party trick, which is a shame, because the method behind them is more interesting than the result. They are not picked at random and they are not the same for everyone.

In the Vedic system each number from 1 to 9 is ruled by a planet, and the planets have long standing relationships with each other. Numbers ruled by planets friendly to yours are your friend numbers. Numbers ruled by planets opposed to yours are your non friend numbers. Everything else is neutral.

The planetary rulers

1 is ruled by the Sun, 2 by the Moon, 3 by Jupiter, 4 by Rahu, 5 by Mercury, 6 by Venus, 7 by Ketu, 8 by Saturn and 9 by Mars.

Because these relationships are not always mutual, your lucky numbers are not necessarily the ones that consider you lucky. That asymmetry is part of the system rather than a flaw in it.

Where to actually use them

The sensible places are the ones where you have a free choice and no strong reason to pick anything else: a seat number, a house number when two options are equal, a date for something optional, a vehicle registration.

The unhelpful place is gambling. Numerology makes no claim to change probability, and anyone selling lucky numbers for that purpose is selling something else.

Unlucky numbers

Your non friend numbers are usually described as unlucky, and the useful reading is drag rather than disaster. They describe the numbers where things take slightly longer and cost slightly more.

Reading them as forbidden turns a mild preference into a superstition, which is where numerology stops being useful and starts being a burden.

Questions about the Lucky Numbers

  • Why do different websites give me different lucky numbers?

Because they use different systems. Some work from the Birth Number, some from the Life Path, some from the name. Check which one a source is using before comparing.

  • Can a lucky number change over time?

The core set stays the same because it comes from your date of birth. What changes is which of them is most active, which depends on your current Personal Year and Dasha period.
