Fill in your Lo Shu Grid and some boxes will stay empty. Those are your missing numbers, and they are usually the most useful part of the whole reading.
A missing number is not a flaw and it is not a curse. It describes a capacity that did not arrive pre installed. Other people got it free. You get it by deciding to build it, which is slower and tends to produce a more conscious version of the same skill.
Why almost everyone born after 2000 has more
This is arithmetic rather than fate. A date of birth in the 1970s or 1980s contains a 1, a 9 and two more digits from the year alone. A date in 2003 contains a 2 and three zeros, and zeros do not go in the grid.
So a younger person will often show five or six missing numbers where their parent shows two. It does not mean the younger generation is weaker. It means the grid method has a built in bias for that era, and a careful reader accounts for it instead of reading it as bad news.
What each missing number points to
Missing 1: difficulty putting yourself forward. You know what you think and you do not say it. The fix is small public commitments, said out loud, on the record.
Missing 2: difficulty reading the emotional temperature of a room. You are not cold, you simply do not pick up the signal. The fix is asking directly instead of guessing.
Missing 3: difficulty expressing yourself, especially in writing or in front of a group. The fix is volume. Say and write more than feels comfortable until it stops being an event.
Missing 4: difficulty with structure, routine and follow through. Ideas come easily, systems do not. The fix is borrowing a system rather than inventing one.
Missing 5: difficulty with balance, and often with change. You either resist it completely or throw yourself into it. The fix is deliberate middle sized changes rather than none or all.
Missing 6: difficulty with responsibility for other people, or the opposite, taking on far too much. The fix is naming what is yours to carry and what is not.
Missing 7: difficulty going deep, or trusting anything you cannot prove. The fix is a subject you study far past the point of usefulness, purely to learn what depth feels like.
Missing 8: difficulty with money and authority. Either avoids both or is uncomfortable holding either. The fix is practice at small scale, where mistakes are cheap.
Missing 9: difficulty seeing past your own situation. The fix is service that involves actual people rather than donations.
Practical remedies people use
Traditional practice offers remedies for missing numbers: wearing the number, using it in phone numbers or house numbers, keeping a related object nearby, or spending time with people who have that number strongly.
Whether those work is a question of belief and not something numerology can prove. What clearly does work is the plain version: identify the skill, admit it did not come naturally, and practise it deliberately. That is available to anyone regardless of what they believe about the rest of it.
Questions about the Missing Numbers
Can I have no missing numbers?
It is possible but uncommon. It needs a date of birth containing all nine digits, which usually means a longer, more varied date. Someone with a full grid tends to be capable across the board and less specialised.
Do missing numbers get filled in over time?
The grid does not change, because your date of birth does not change. What changes is you. Most adults have already built one or two of their missing numbers without realising it, usually because a job or a relationship forced the issue.
