Balance Number

Built from your initials. It shows the resource you reach for when things go wrong, and whether reaching for it helps.

The Balance Number is the smallest calculation in a chart and one of the most practical. It uses only the initials of your name, and it describes your default behaviour in a crisis.

Everyone has a stress response they did not choose. Some people go quiet, some get busy, some start organising other people. This number names yours, which is the first step to noticing it while it is happening.

How to calculate your Balance Number

Only the first letter of each part of your name is used.

  1. 1

Take the first letter of your first name, middle name and surname.

  2. 2

Convert each initial to its number.

  3. 3

    Add them together.

  4. 4

    Reduce to a single digit.

Example for the initials J D S

  • J = 1
  • D = 4
  • S = 1
  • 1 + 4 + 1 = 6

Balance Number 6

Using it before you need it

The value of this number is knowing it in advance. In the middle of a bad week you will not be reading a chart, you will just be reacting. Knowing your default beforehand lets you catch it.

A Balance Number 1 will try to take control, which is useful in an emergency and counterproductive in a slow burning family problem. A Balance Number 7 will withdraw to think, which is excellent for decisions and terrible for a partner who needs to talk. Same instinct, different situations, different result.

Questions about the Balance Number

  • What if I have no middle name?

Use the initials you have. Two initials work fine, and the reading is the same in kind.

  • Why use only the initials?

Initials are the compressed version of a name, the part that appears on documents and signatures. Numerology treats them as the concentrated form, which is why they are used for a number about pressure.
